The Centre for Enterprise Development and Action Research (CEDAR) and the Distance Learning Centre, University of Ibadan (DLC) have entered into a partnership to provide courses in the areas of "Entrepreneurship" and "Care Provision and Management". The courses presently on offer are listed below:-
1. Certificate in Entrepreneurship Development Training (EDT);
2. Certificate in Care Provision and Management.
CERTIFICATE COURSES
Certificate in Entrepreneurship Development Training (EDT)
The duration for the Professional Certificate in Entrepreneurship Development training is 3-6 months and is open to the following category of people:
a. People who want to set up small enterprises, as well as development practitioners who want to set up non-profit organisations such as Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
b. Owners of schools who would like to mainstream entrepreneurship in schools curricula.
c. NYSC members, undergraduates of tertiary institutions and young school leavers.
Entry Qualifications
a. WASC/SSCE/NECO with at least 4 credits.
b. Mature students with at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
Objectives of the Course
The objectives of the course are to:-
a. Build the skills of people who are interested in setting up small business enterprises
b. Motivate, discipline and gear interested students towards creativity, critical thinking and decision making in setting up and sustaining viable enterprises.
In achieving these objectives, we hope to:-
a. Alleviate poverty.
b. Create employment opportunities and means of livelihood.
c. Encourage the establishment of small scale business for self reliance.
Strategy
The programme will be delivered in partnership with the Distance Learning Centre, University of Ibadan. Graduates from the courses will be assisted to form Trade groups and would be facilitated to acquire micro-credit for setting up businesses for which they have produced business plans.
Fees
Application Fee: N5,000.00
Course Fee: N25,000.00
There will be a special rebate in the course fee for Distance Learning students and students of part-time programmes.
Mode of Study
The EDT is a 3-6 months programme with three weeks of contact period and one (10 week of practical experience). Students will be provided with paper and electronic study materials and will be exposed to best practices through field visits. Contact sessions will be designed to evoke lively discussion and learning about best practices in the Enterprise Development field. At the end of the programme, students will be expected to draw up business plans for their proposed enterprises.
Certificate in Care Provision and Management
The duration for the Professional Certificate in Care Provision and Management is 3-6 months and is open to all that have the requisite entry qualification who want to set up an agency that will provide Home Care/Assisted Living services.
Entry Requirements
a. WASC/SSCE/GCE/NECO with Credit in 3 subjects or adult Literacy Certificate or equivalent.
b. Ward Assistant Certificate or Auxiliary Nursing Certificate.
c. Mature candidates with some years of relevant working experience.
Objectives of the Course
The objectives of the course are to:-
a. Professionalize Care provision and house keeping by equipping people with skills to set up agencies for Home Care services for people including babies, the aged, the disabled, the sick and other interested groups.
b. Organise care providers into trade groups and learning communities.
c. Standardise and regulate the practice of Care giving.
In achieving these objectives, we hope to:-
a. Create employment and alleviate poverty.
b. Reduce the problem of women and child trafficking.
c. Raise the quality of Care giving and givers.
d. Create better environment for Care givers and beneficiaries by reducing exploitation, abuse and criminality.
Strategy
The programme will be delivered in partnership with the Distance Learning Centre, University of Ibadan. Graduates of the programme would be assisted to form a trade group and the entrepreneurial talented ones will be facilitated (to acquire micro-credit) to set up Care Agencies.

Mode of Study
Students will be provided with paper and electronic study materials but will also be exposed to practicals and best practices from all over the world. the programme will involve contact sessions when practitioners, especially Nigerians living in other countries will share their knowledge and skills. there will also be practical attachment for a duration.
